Commending the Educational policy of the State Governor; H.E. Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON, in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Organisation; Comr. Pedro Obi, while speaking to a cross section of student leaders selected from across the State on the 27th of August, 2014, in a programme marking the 23rd Anniversary of Delta State creation.
In the statement, Comr. Pedro Obi posited that today is a day for us all as a people to Reflect on our past, Re-evaluate our present and if positive, Consolidate on it to secure a solid future for the generation yet unborn. For the past few years, the State has witnessed a lot of transformation in the Educational sector, ranging from Infrastructure re-modelling of our primary and secondary schools to the numbers of Executive policies on Education management such as EDU MARSHAL etc. We are fully aware of the enormous responsibility on the State Government as the State unarguably host the highest number of State owned Tertiary Institution in the country, with four more Polytechnics in the pipeline; making a total of 13 State owned tertiary institution, the highest in Nigeria. This is a testament of the Governor’s unshaken stand in empowering the Nigerian Youths through education, hence Finishing Strong in the area of Human Capital Development of the State Government 3-point Agenda.
NANS commends the Delta State Commissioner for Youths; Hon. Ebifa Ijomah and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters; Comr. Owhoforador Oghenewegba, haven shown high capacity and untiring effort in carrying the Students/Youths along in Delta State. Comr. Pedro Obi, pointed out that the prevailing peace in the student community and in extension the entire State, never came on a platter of Gold, but it is as a result of the Commissioner’s and SSA’s show of maturity in handling issues, open door policy as well as the level playing ground provided to the student community, hence contributing substantially in making sure the State Government Finishes Strong.
The statement further commended Comr. Jude Imagwe, MON, Senior Special Assistant to President on Youths/Students Affairs and Comr. Mike Akpobire; former Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Students Matters, whose legacy as a Student Union Government President in Delta State University remains a benchmark for measuring any Student Union Government performance in the University. NANS commend the duo and other former leaders for their consistent advice, and support to capacity building programmes targeted at taking the Student Movement to an enviable height in the country.
Finally, Comr. Pedro Obi called on all Nigerian Students particularly those in Delta State to shun Violence, embrace peace and to be academically focused and be of good conduct as the State prepares to host the National Convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). We use this occasion to welcome in advance, all Nigerian Students to Delta State, the land of the “Finger of God”, as we look forward to a hitch free convention.
